    They sell Yamanashi Nouveau here.

  60. 60.

Yamanashi Prefecture produces more wine than anywhere else in Japan.

  61. 61.

This sparkling wine is really good.

  62. 62.

An isshōbin is the largest standard bottle used for sake,

  64. 64.

“Do you have a membership card? Please hold each product’s barcode close to the scanner to register it.”

  75. 75.

    “89 yen.”

  76. 76.

    “219 yen.”

  77. 77.

“This alcoholic item requires age verification. Thank you very much.”

  80. 80.

You must be 20 or older to buy alcohol.

  81. 81.

So when you scan the barcode on an alcoholic drink,

  82. 82.

a staff member comes over to verify your age.

  83. 83.

This prevents middle and high school students from buying alcohol.

  84. 84.

Let’s get back to talking about Christmas.

  85. 85.

At Christmas, people often eat cake as well as chicken.

  86. 86.

The most common Christmas cake is usually a strawberry shortcake.

  87. 87.

    There are also chocolate cakes,

  88. 88.

and things like bûche de Noël.

  89. 89.

Every year, I make a strawberry Christmas cake.

  90. 90.

A whole cake costs around 4,000 or 5,000 yen.

  91. 91.

In one year, there are my children’s three birthdays and one Christmas,

  92. 92.

so buying cakes four times in total is expensive, and I started making them myself.

  93. 93.

As a result, I’ve become quite good at making cakes.

  94. 94.

After this, I’ll go home and make Kentucky-style fried chicken.

  95. 95.

The expression “something-style” means “like something” or “in the manner of something.”

  96. 96.

    Now, let’s make it.

  97. 97.

    This is salt.

  98. 98.

    This is white pepper.

  99. 99.

And this one is black pepper.

  100. 100.

    I'll add both.

  101. 101.

    This is allspice.

  102. 102.

There was a little less than I expected.

  103. 103.

    I'll mix it.

  104. 104.

Later, I'll sprinkle this over the chicken and mix it well.

  105. 105.

    I'll cut the chicken.

  106. 106.

I'll cut each piece into three.

  107. 107.

    I'll pound it a little.

  108. 108.

I'll put it in a bowl.

  109. 109.

Add the spices and mix well.

  110. 110.

    It's all mixed.

  111. 111.

Cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for one hour.

  112. 112.

Next, I'll coat it with batter.

  113. 113.

The coating around foods such as fried chicken and tempura is called koromo.

  114. 114.

It's an old word meaning “clothing.”

  115. 115.

Add sparkling water to the flour.

  116. 116.

Apparently, sparkling water makes the meat tender.

  117. 117.

But regular water is fine too.

  118. 118.

    Mix it just a little.

  119. 119.

I took the chicken out of the refrigerator and removed the plastic wrap.

  120. 120.

After dipping it in the liquid mixture...

  121. 121.

    Coat it with flour.

  122. 122.

    Shake off the excess flour.

  123. 123.

    The last one is done.

  124. 124.

    Next, I'll fry them.

  125. 125.

    I'll light the gas burner.

  126. 126.

Set the temperature to 180 degrees.

  127. 127.

    Deep-fry them in oil.

  128. 128.

Fry what has already been fried once more.

  129. 129.

Frying something twice is called nido-age, or double-frying.

  130. 130.

After frying it twice, it turned a beautiful color.

  131. 131.

It didn't actually taste like KFC, but...

  132. 132.

    Well, it turned out delicious.

  133. 133.

I'm glad because the children enjoyed it.

  134. 134.

I imagine you all live in various countries and follow various religions.

  135. 135.

With that in mind, I'd like to ask: do you do anything for Christmas?

  136. 136.

I'd be happy if you told me in the comments what you do, or whether you don't do anything.
